SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews Links in Fife, Scotland from Thursday 30 September to Sunday 3 October 2021.
SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.
This year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship will be the 20th edition of the tournament, which alongside the traditional stroke play for professionals, also features a concurrent pro-am where each team consists of one amateur and one professional, with this event helping to raise money for local charities. The three course rotation consists of The Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Link and Kingsbarns Golf Links.
The 54-hole cut is made of the top 60 professionals and the leading 20 pro-am teams, regardless of the professional member of the team making the individual cut. These players and teams advance to the final round at St Andrews.
Among the professionals who have confirmed they will play are Tommy Fleetwood (who has finished runner-up twice and is the current holder of the team championship with Ogden Phipps), as well as Tony Finau and newly-crowned BMW PGA champion Billy Horschel, both of whom will be hoping to deliver the first American victory in the championship.
Past champions Padraig Harrington – the European Ryder Cup captain – and Tyrrell Hatton, meanwhile, will each be hoping to become the first to win the Championship for a third time.
Frenchman Victor Perez, who has held the Alfred Dunhill Links trophy for two years after the 2020 Championship did not take place because of the Covid-19 pandemic, will be back to defend his title.
He’ll be joined by celebrity amateurs Tom Chaplin from Keane, Linkin Park’s David Farrell, Ronan Keating, Brad Simpson from The Vamps, Huey Lewis, Bon Jovi’s Tico Torres, actor Greg Kinnear, former professional footballer Jamie Redknapp and Peter Jones from Dragon’s Den.
Redknapp said: “The courses we play are three of the most wonderful in the world. The Old Course is the most historic place to play golf, Carnoustie is an awesome championship venue and Kingsbarns is spectacularly beautiful, you can see the sea from every hole.”
The St. Andrews Links Old Course is a 6,721 yard par 72 course. The purse for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is $5million.
