Police are hunting for three unidentified thugs accused of shooting dead a security guard, injuring another, and making off with millions in cash from Stabex fuel station along Kyabazinga Way in Jinja City.

22-year-old James Peter Okoboi, attached to Security Group Africa Limited (SGA), was gunned down in the wee hours of Thursday morning, while his colleague, Isaac Olupot, is nursing grave gunshot injuries at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

Both Olupot and Okoboi work with the same security company and are native residents of Agule sub-county.

James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, says the thugs were traveling in a blue trailer that was coming from Kampala headed for Busia.

He says they started shooting at the guards before they robbed three million shillings and fled.

Mubi explains: ” At 2 am, October 7 the assailants opened up fire against the guards and ran away with three million. Police rushed the victims to Jinja regional referral hospital. However, Okoboi succumbed to gun wounds at around 5 am. Olupot is responding to treatment. The two guns that guards were using have been recovered UG PSO MV 8674G 02729 and SHE gun UG POL 13284648 103173, ten cartridges have been recovered at the scene.

He says that the deceased’s body is lying at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem.

Mubi has appealed to anyone with relevant information regarding what happened to approach the police for expeditious arrest and prosecution of the suspects.
