Mukono Municipality Mp Betty Nambooze stormed police this morning to report an attack by machete-wielding goons at her residence.
Nambooze told police that an unidentified tall, dark-skinned man clad in a suit jacket and armed with a sharp panga raided her residence at Nakabago cell, Ntawo ward, Central Division, Mukono Municipality on Tuesday morning. Nambooze says the strange suspected assailant whose motives were unclear managed to locate the bedroom where she was resting.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Nambooze made an alarm upon noticing him, attracting the attention of her husband Bakireke who fought off the thug until he escaped. Nambooze says she left the bedroom open because she was planning to go for a meeting at Parliament.
”It is alleged that Honourable Member of Parliament made an alarm and her husband Bakireke came to her rescue by grabbing the man pushing him outside, the suspect later escaped and jumped onto a motorcycle waiting for him outside as witnessed by some neighbours,” Owoyesigyire said
Owoyesigyire says a team of detectives visited the scene and recovered two brand new pangas in a sack at a small garden of tomatoes in the honourable’s premises. He says other items of material evidence have also been recovered.
Owoyesigyire adds that investigations have now commenced with police recording statements from relevant witnesses
and viewing CCTV footage to identify the rider.
