NUP on Komamboga bomb blast

The National Unity platform has trashed allegations it has a hand in the recent bomb blasts at Komamboga that claimed one person and left many injured.

The party Secretary -General Lewis Rubongoya while addressing a presser at their offices in Kamwokya said NUP is a clean and modest party that doesn’t uphold dubious motives. He mentioned that the allegations were only aimed at tarnishing a hard-built image.

This presser started at 10:45 am and few people attended it mainly the party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi and his Deputy Alex Mufumbiro plus the Secretary-general Lewis Rubogoya with their few supporters

His comments follow an eyewitness account by a barmaid at the scene of crime narrated to the media that one of the suspects in the bomb blast had donned on a People Power T-shirt. People Power is a pressure group affiliated with the National Unity Platform.

”Everything starts as a joke,s if someone like that Lady does an interview and says they were putting on people power T-shirts, we cannot take that lightly because we have seen how this regime operates .”he said

NUP on Komamboga bomb blast

Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP mouthpiece said it was absurd to link them to such heinous acts and asked for a speedy and unbiased inquiry into the incident so that the real culprits are penalized.

“We have heard some government apologists trying to link this to NUP and we think it’s very redundant and clumsy and this happens when they want us to digress from insisting that investigations are carried out ,our demand as citizens of Uganda is for police to carry out swift and honest investigations so that the perpetrators of this very unfortunate incident are known and brought to book,”  Ssenyonyi said.

The Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, says that the attack was planned by three unidentified men who first approached the bar to buy beer but later left behind a black polythene bag with a bomb that detonated moments later. The device was made of nails and other metallic pieces.

AIGP Abas Byakagaba Director Counter-Terrorism has said investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact perpetrators behind the Kamamboga bomb blast.

While addressing the media at a joint security briefing, Byakagaba said :‘’ Let us not rush to what it is, apart from what we are giving you .even the materials used are all under investigation. Isis taking responsibility, we don’t work with Isis and what we are going to look for are the perpetrators of this heinous incident and therefore at this moment I may not be able to comment about the claims by Isis’’

Byabakama says all terror groups are being treated as suspects in the bomb attacks. He says security forces are already making moves towards getting the culprits.
