Police say political actors are plotting illegal protests to provoke security officers into arresting rioters and tarnishing the reputation of security agencies .

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga says National Unity Platform(NUP) boss Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and his counterpart leading The People’s Front for Transition (TPFT) Kiiza Besigye are planning countrywide protests to distablise peace.

While addressing journalists at his headquarters in Naguru today, Enanga said police managed to block illegal protests in Lira as Bobi Wine and Mbale sought to incite the public through radio shows .

Over the weekend,Bobi Wine and other NUP members were blocked from holding political radio shows in the two districts by the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) .In Mbale ,the RCC Robert Washaki ordered a local radio, BCU FM to dismiss a talk show after it was paid for. In a similar incident ,a talk show on Radio Wa in Lira City was blocked and huge crowds dispersed with teargas.

Enanga says the groups have plans to incite the public into rioting to provoke brutal action from police .

“, these are plans in early stages but with the potential escalating them ,that is the main goal by Rtd Col Kiiza Besigye and Kyagulanyi our credible intelligence shows that they want to capitalise on any arrests ,injuries and fatalities that could arise out of the provocative between the rioters and police to brand police as highhanded ,aggressive and brutal,”

Enanga says Bobwine and his team flouted the Public Order and Management acts by holding illegal processions in Mbale and Lira Cities without clearance from Police .He says they continue to use provocative tactics to cause disruption.
