Security forces have confirmed the arrest of 21 suspected rebels linked to the Allied Democratic Forces rebel group (ADF).The group is believed to have taken part in the recent twin bomb explosion that happened on Tuesday.

Seven people died and over 35 others sustained injuries after the bombs went off at Buganda road near the Central Police Station and Jubilee insurance building along Parliamentary Avenue in Kampala.

In a media briefing today at Naguru,police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed the arrests saying intelligence information led into them to busting several ADF cells in the country. Enanga says among the busted ADF terror cells include ; Mpereerwe, Lweza, Ntoroko and Kasana in Luweero district.

“We have arrested 21 suspects after dismantling ADF cells in  Kampala, Wakiso, Luweero and Ntoroko. These were operatives, coordinators and financers of terrorism activities,13 from Ntoroko, seven adults and six juveniles being smuggled out of the Country to join ADF in DRC.We recovered three sets of Improvised Explosive Devices and  an AK47,” ” Enanga said.

Enanga also says five suspects were killed from Kampala and Ntoroko in the process following attempts to resist arrest by exchanging fire with armed security operatives.

He identified one Sheikh Muhammad Kirevu a suspected terrorist recruiter with ADF , who was put out of action in Nsangi, Wakiso district .

“He was recruiting young men into ADF.“During the encounter with our teams, there was an exchange of gun fire and the  four  were killed. These were greatly linked to Luminsa, the fourth in command in the ADF. They were being surveilled by our teams along the border.” he said

Enanga says police is also hunting down another Sheikh called Nsubuga for radicalization,traing and providing materials on use of IEDS to those recruited.

“ADF is widely recruiting young men ,aiding rebels and opening recruitment centres .During the encounter with our teams, there was an exchange of gun fire and the  four  were killed. These were greatly linked to Luminsa, the fourth in command in the ADF. They were being surveilled by our teams along the border.”he said
