President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Kayunga district today for highly anticipated campaigns ahead of the LC5 by-elections slated for December 16.
Locals in Kayunga will go to the polls on Thursday this week to elect their District Chairperson in a tight race between National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Harriet Nakweede and Andrew Muwonge for National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Ahead of his arrival Military and Police have deployed in various parts of the district to counter any interruptions and ensure his security is handled.

Uganda Police Force and Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF operatives are present in Kayunga, Kangurumira, Kitimbwa, Kayonza, and Busaana town councils. Various checkpoints have been enforced on major routes and the River Ssezibwa bridge with water cannons and teargas trucks.
This deployment comes amidst rumours that the National Unity Platform (NUP) boss Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was expected to collide with Museveni on the same day to campaign for his candidate.

Ssempala Kigozi, the Kayunga Resident District Commissioner-RDC has maintained that the NUP strongman doesn’t stand a chance to participate in campaigns today because he didn’t follow the right protocol.
“We had organised security for him earlier but he didn’t come and did nothing and failed to communicate, but when he heard that the President was coming he started now involving his information office to have him come ,but we told him we cant hold two people on the same day.”

On Monday,Police rubbished reports that they blocked Bobi Wine from accessing Kayunga district for the campaigns ahead of the by-election .
While addressing journalists at Naguru, police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said they have not blocked anyone in Kayunga since it an open by-election.

Meanwhile, the Military and Police have sealed off all roads leading to the residence of NUP President Bobi Wine.
By 9 am, armed security personnel had camped at the residence of the opposition leader blocking access to anyone moving in or out. Various roadblocks have been manned along Gayaza and all feeder roads of Magere village in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District .
