Electrocution in swimming pool
Police in the Kiira region are investigating the death of a man, found dead in a swimming pool at a Recreation Centre in Jinja.
Arafat Kalwaza,22, an accountant working with Dreams Recreation Centre was reportedly electrocuted in the swimming pool on Wednesday morning.here are several loose electricity connections at the facility.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased died as a result of an open electrical wire that sparked an electric current into the water while he was swimming.
Eye witnesses say Kalwaza entered the pool at about 7:00 am in the morning but shortly after that a loud sound was heard and sparks were seen emanating from the pool. By the time other employees rushed to rescue Kalwaza, he was already dead.
They accuse the authorities of illegally connecting power hence the several loose electric wires at the facility.
“Only the reception area is connected to Yaka, but the rest of the departments were illegally connected using underground loose power lines, which exposes people to electrocution,” says an employee who prefers anonymity.
