Fred has divided opinion among supporters at Manchester United since his arrival.

Fred was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk by former Manchester United Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.

The Brazilian was also monitored and almost signed by Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United had to act quickly by paying 47 million Pounds to prize him away from their bitter rivals.

Fred found it hard adjusting to the football played in the Premier League with the man who signed him not giving him a chance to prove himself.

Manchester United fired Mourinho in 2018 after series of poor performances. The sacking of the Portuguese paved way for club great Ole Gunar Solskjaer on interim basis.

The arrival of Solskjaer paved the way for Fred. The 28 year old became a mainstay for the Norwegian who partnered him with Scot McTominay.

Fred and McTominay even under German coach Rangnick continue to generate heated debate among the Manchester United faithful.

The pair under Solskjaer occupied the deep lying midfield area. Many United fans argued they killed the attacking aspect of the team.

Fred in particular has been seen by some faithful as delaying the Van Der Beek development at the club. The Dutchman arrived from Ajax during Solskjaer;s reign but is yet to establish himself in the starting team.

Van Der Beek’s telling Man Utd tale hasn’t been helped by the appointment of the current boss Rangnick, who is considering sending him away on loan.

However, with the United story aside, Fred has established himself as the key men in Brazil’s world cup story. In their latest game, the midfielder enjoyed 90 minutes of the game.

Many argue the Brazilian is not worth a place in the Samba team. Aston Villa’s David Luiz and Liverpool’s Fabinha are highly rated midfielders who all play in the Premier League but can’t find space in Tito’s team.

Fred has started illustrating some of his best attributes in both the Manchester United shirt and the yellow of Brazil.

Playing deep under Rangnick and for Tito, Fred sent a curling ball to wonderkid Anthony Elanga against Aston Villa and Neymar against Uruguay stunned so many.

The Brazilian can play a vital role for any team if he is understood. His other attribute is that one of intercepting play. He does that so often.

Against Villarreal in the Champions League under interim manager Michael Carrick, the midfielder intercepted the ball from the goalkeeper putting through Ronaldo who looped the ball to hand United a goal.

Carrick, Rangnick and the Brazil boss have understood Fred’s role. They have allowed him to play high up the pitch helping their teams to press.

Rangnick saw his team struggle and even at some point dropped Fred simply because his pairing with McTominay sat deep inviting the opposition into their own half.

But the German has since changed to a favourable 4-3-3 system allowing Fred to join Bruno Fernandez with McTominay playing a deeper role.

Manchester United have enjoyed the system and it is Fred who has stood out in their last two games. He nearly got himself on the scoresheet against Aston Villa and Brendford.
