Struggling Messi faces Realmadrid
The Champions League returns this week and offers up one of the biggest matches of the entire football season as Paris Saint-Germain host Real Madrid.
Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten in 14 straight matches in all competitions. The Parisians are in good form and coming off of a 1-0 win over Rennes.
Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last two games in all competitions. Carlo Ancelotti’s team drew nil-nil with Villarreal at the weekend in La Liga.
These teams last met in the Champions League during the 2019-20 group stage. Paris Saint-Germain did the double over Real Madrid in the group stage with a home win and away draw.
Since 2015, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have met six times in the Champions League. Real Madrid posted a record of 3W-1D-2L across the six matches. However, Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten in the teams’ last two matches.
Mauricio Pochettino received a personnel boast over the weekend with Neymar returning to training. The former Barcelona man suffered an ankle injury that kept him out for a several weeks.
It is likely that Tuesday’s match will come too soon for Neymar to make the team due to a lack of fitness.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Ander Herrera is a doubt due to a hamstring. Defender Sergio Ramos is a doubt with another calf injury. Otherwise, Pochettino will have his top stars available for the game.
Pochettino is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season regardless of the outcome of their Champions League campaign. It is believed he will join Manchester United.
