Pellets of heroine
Entebbe Magistrate’s Court has charged a woman arrested for hiding 90 pellets of heroine in her reproductive organ destined for New Delhi-India.
Carol Birungi was netted last week by officers attached to the Anti-Narcotic Police Unit at Entebbe International Airport trafficking the drugs. She was presented before the Entebbe Chief Magistrate Juliet Nakitende on Tuesday and consequently charged with unlawful possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs. Birungi pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The State asked Court for more time to enable them conclude investigations. Resident State Attorney Janet Kitimbo, said she was optimistic that investigations will be complete by end of February.
Police managed to arrest the suspect after receiving intelligence information that Birungi was working alongside a racket of criminals still at large to smuggle illicit drugs into the country.

Police Criminal Investigations Directorate Spokesperson (CID) Charles Twinne said last week that the suspect had in January smuggled Heroin drug palates from Ethiopia to Uganda through porous border points in Eastern Uganda.
Twine said drug traffickers often marry Ugandan girls and train into dealing in drugs on their behalf.
“We have had cases where Ugandan girls have been fooled by Nigerian men, who come here pretending to loving them to the extent of even marrying them, and start training them to be part of the illicit trade,” said Twine. Consequently she starts delivering cargoes to India, Sri Lanka or Europe, but when they don’t succeed and get apprehended, you will never see the Nigerian husband again.” Twine explained
Records at the Anti-Narcotics Unit at Criminal Investigations Directorate –CID show that 7,328 people were arrested in the last two years for illegally buying, selling and smuggling the intoxicating drugs.
Entebbe Airport is one of the known transit routes for drug traffickers. For instance, in 2020, police officers seized 41.9 kilograms of illicit drugs valued at over shillings 1.7 billion.
