Deputy Speaker Among demands apology

Its no jokes for Mityana Municipality Legislator Hon. Francis Zaake who was ditched on Thursday as Parliamentary commissioner.

155 Members of Parliament signed a petition to throw out the legislator over use of un parliamentary language.  Bardege-Layibi Division MP, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi moved a motion for Zaake’s removal over abusive tweets targeted at the Deputy Speaker Anita Among.

Through a secret ballot, 155 MPs voted in favour of the motion, three voted against while two votes were invalid, He is also required to appear before Parliament within one week to offer an apology.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament then directed that Zaake apologizes within one week and ordered the opposition legislators to respond in one week with another name for replacement.

“Hon Zaake, ceases to be a member of the parliamentary commission and is required to apologize within a period of one week, I therefore ask the opposition to send in another name for a person to replace him,” He stated

 

However, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament stormed out of the house accompanied by a section of MP’s, Mpuuga described the process as illegal. “We used our space to guide the process but the mob came with a predetermined position,” Mpuuga said.

At least 176 MPs are needed to move the motion for the removal of a Commissioner from office. For the motion to succeed after the debate, the House needs a majority.

On Friday while addressing a press briefing at Parliament, Mpuuga said the opposition will not front another member to succeed Zaake because the circumstances leading up to his expulsion were illegal. Mpuuga maintains that Zaake remains a Parliamentary commissioner .
