Kabaka’s travel abroad on Presidential jet

The Katikiro of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga has reacted to emotional statements uttered by the Chief Justice of Uganda over the Kabaka , Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ii ‘s treatment abroad.

The Chief Justice of Uganda Alphonse Owiny Dollo sparked debate on social media this week after an emotional speech at a thanks giving ceremony for the deceased Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.

While addressing mourners at late Oulanyah’s residence in Muyenga, CJ Owiny Dollo accused the fraternity of Baganda in the diaspora of being hypocritical by demonstrating against the government funding Speaker’s travel for treatment.

The CJ questioned why the same Buganda fraternity abroad remained silent while the State vomited millions out of courtesy to transport their ethnic head abroad.

But your ethnic leader,(Kabaka) was transported in a Presidential jet to Germany using public funds, yet he was not entitled, you didn’t demonstrate, is it because Oulanyah is an Acholi or that he doesn’t speak your language, a wicked person fights someone fighting for his life , a super wicked person fights a dead person,” he said

In a statement released on Friday by Katikkiro Mayiga, he stresses that the utterances made by the Chief Justice were untrue. The Katikkiro asserts that the Kabaka has never used a presidential jet and more importantly, not to that trip in Germany abroad.

“Death causes shock , grief and anguish and it often makes emotions run high. However, just for the record, when the Kabaka flew to Germany in August, 2021, he didn’t fly by the presidential jet but by KLM,”Mayiga said.

The Kabaka traveled to Germany in August 2021 to seek advanced medical care from medical experts for his allergy complications.  He also used the same trip to  inspect the activities of his Kabaka Foundation in Germany where he met various subjects in the diaspora.

He also went on to mourn the deceased Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah describing him as an accomplished lawyer and skilled debater.

“The kingdom of Buganda joins all Ugandans in mourning the untimely death of the Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah who was a consummate politician and legislator.”

He went on to caution the public to desist from dragging the name of the deceased Speaker and other leaders into unwarranted debates. He adds that such statements could he said could create more grief to the family, friends ,colleagues and the entire country. causing more grief to the family, friends ,colleagues and the entire country.
