Sexual violence is one of the most widely used weapons of war, often against women. Yet men are also victims. Their numbers remain unknown mostly because traumatized male survivors are too ashamed to come forward.

In November 2019, police arrested a teacher for allegedly sodomising a five-year-old boy, a pupil at King Fahad Islamic Primary School in Busega, Wakiso District.

Parents of the boy noticed that he was walking with difficulty and upon interrogating him, he revealed what had happened and identified the culpable teacher.

In April,2020, police arrested a man who had been using his position as the headteacher of a school to sexually abuse the young boys in his care.

The headteacher preyed upon families in poverty, promising to find foreign sponsors to pay for their boys’ tuition. Many of these boys leaped at the opportunity to receive an education they would not have been able to afford otherwise.
