Dealing and smoking Marijuana
A security crackdown on use of illegal substance in Kakumiro district has led to the arrest of a gang of dealers in the area.
Police and Military stormed Dangalo cell in Igayaza town council on Monday night, following intelligence information that youths are widely dealing in the illicit trade, causing rise in the crime.
Security netted 16 suspected marijuana smokers and dealers, in addition to recovering 8 sacks of marijuana and other substances at the scene of crime.
The suspects are currently being held at Kakumiro Central Police Station for being in possession of narcotics while they await appearance in the Courts of Law.
The Kakumiro Resident District Commissioner-RDC ,Major David Matovu, says he commanded the operation, because cases of cases of burglary, murder, rape, and house break-ins among others are on the rise in the district.
“This place of crime has people who smoke weed, sell it , drink alcohol, the suspects look wasted already with worn out bodies, unkempt hair, rotting teeth all because of weed. People no longer pass that route anymore because of petty theft , rape of women, burglary, its so a shaming,”Matovu, says

He however says the crackdown is far from over because the vise has since spread to other areas in the district with many wrong elements terrorizing residents.
The National Drug Policy and Authority Act 2000 gives a drug pusher one year jail time or a fine between Shs1m to Shs2m or both irrespective of the quantity of narcotic drugs he or she was found in possession with.
