A frustrated man in Kireka is fighting for his life at Mulago National Referral Hospital after slicing his neck with a knife.
Mubiru Dan, 48, a resident of Kira municipality, Wakiso district is in a critical state in hospital where he was rushed by police officers from Kireka police.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says police responded to a distress call from vendors at the Kireka main market indicating that a man had used a sharp knife to cut his throat.
Owoyesigyire says the incident happened on Monday morning at 11:00 am after Mubiru approached the market with a knife in his hand to buy groceries.
Eyewitnesses at the market claim Mubiru looked stable but a little bit confused as he kept hoping from one stall to another trying to purchase items in vein. They further allege that after a while, Mubiru stood at the center of the market for a few minutes before raising the knife to his neck.
They say blood started oozing from Mubiru’s neck profusely, causing locals and vendors to scream out of shock.
Owoyesigyire told our reporter Minah Nalule that Mubiru is currently admitted at Mulago hospital for treatment but remains in critical condition. He says police is still investigating the cause of his attempted suicide.
“It is alleged that Mubiru attempted suicide by cutting his neck with a knife.The cause of the attempted suicide is still unknown but the incident will be investigated and more details will be provided as soon as they are available. “ he says
Early this month, two people, including an LCI chairperson committed suicide. Police identified the deceased as Julius Mutabaazi, 52, who was the LCI chairperson of Lwakasolola Village, and Antonio Lwanga Matovu a resident of Biwolobo Village, Lyantonde Town Council in Lyantonde District.
Recently, a primary pupil in Namayingo committed suicide under unclear circumstances. The deceased, Egesa Patrick aka Ege, a pupil at Goodwill Nursery and Primary School, was found hanging on a wire by locals, hours after he prophesied it.
Days ago, a Senior four student of Wanyange SS committed suicide.17-year-old Josephine Namuli, a senior four student at Wanyange girls secondary school, located in Kakira town council, in Jinja district died an unnatural death.
Namuli apparently committed suicide by hanging. She is reported to have used a rope to hang herself in the dormitory.
In March 2022, a graduate from Kyambogo University committed suicide after failing to get a job. Brian Wetaka, who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Chemical Engineering, in 2019 returned to his former lecture room block at the university and committed suicide from there.
