Police in Kampala has busted a group of four criminals selling candies laced with Marijuana to learners in several schools.
The accused have been identified as Masanga Racheal, Suzi Suliman, Ayo Joshua and Mbabazi Jovia all residents of Kungu , Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. They have been operating a factory that sells and distributes Marijuana laced products in schools.
Fred Enanga ,Uganda Police Spokesperson says the suspects have been in the habit of disguising sugary items like pancakes, cookies, cakes among others laced with narcotics, before selling them off to the naive and unsuspecting customers.
Enanga paraded samples of some of the items to journalists at the police headquarters in Naguru on Monday, asking the public to beware of the items that have since hit the market by storm. Some of the items recovered include ‘smile he’ products, snack daddies, pancakes, Supreme flour , baking powder laced with powdered marijuana, Marijuana sticks among others.
Enanga says the suspects would lace the items in edibles and supply them to learners during school parties and occasions. He says the suspects were busted during a party at a girl’s secondary school(names withheld) .
He says the suspects were approached by the ten girls organizing a school party who were aware of their dealings.
“ The cooking oil is processed and laced with Marijuana so when a student eats , you see them smiling for no reason. They deliver these items like biscuits, daddies,cooking oil , Marijuana sweets in schools . These narcotics make the students excited and elevate their spirits to make it seem like they can do anything. Their products are packed to supermarket standards” Enanga says
He says that the drugs are well packaged and cost between 15000 to 30000 shillings, depending on the item.
Enanga says the suspects will be charged with drug trafficking and being in possession of narcotic substances.
