Locals in Jinja City are still wrapping their hands around how 90 rounds of live ammunition were discovered abandoned at one residence.

On Sunday, police authorities in Wanyange lake cell, Northern Division, Jinja City received a distress call from a house maid at the residence of a civilian identified as Muhammed Kakaire.
The maid (names withheld) informed police that she had come across strange items in the compound including an army green arm chest jacket and other items.

Kiira region police spokesperson, James Mubi says that a team of detectives at Wanyange police post and other security organizations rushed to the scene to establish the source of the live ammunition.

He says police discovered live bullets wrapped inside the army jacket. He says police are yet to establish circumstances under which the bullets were abandoned, although it is suspected that they could have been used by unidentified criminals.

Mubi says detectives deployed police canines to trace the person who abandoned the ammunition in vain. He says that efforts to track down suspects within the neighboring areas are still underway.

Kakaire’s maid says her boss was not around at the time she discovered the army jacket. She further states that he has not hired any armed guards within their premises.

“We don’t have any armed guards around our premises and as the overall overseer of this house on behalf of my boss, I had to alert the police after sighting such suspicious equipment outside the house,” he said.

Locals say they are not certain what kind of business the owner of the premises is involved in although he is a respectful member of the area.
