Police in Kampala has netted a private security guard for the murder and attempted murder of two children in Namavundu village, Kasangati town council in Wakiso district.
The deceased is Nantongo Annet 8 and her injured sibling has been identified as Nakiboneka Sumaya. They are reportedly victims of a ritual sacrifice.
The suspect Mubatizi John, was nabbed on Tuesday after police with the help of a canine dog led detectives to his residence where the children were found.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says the suspect is being interrogated at Kasangati police station in relation to the incident. He says statements recorded are attributing the murder of the girl to ritual practice purposes.
Owoyesigyire says on that fateful day, the mother of the victims Nakakande Stevia, 23, sent her two children to a nearby shop on Sunday to buy a book but they never returned.
He says Nakakande started searching for the missing children with the help of neighbours until Monday at 4:00 pm when Nakiboneka was found with serious wounds to her body and rushed to Mulago hospital in critical condition.
Owoyesigyire adds that Nakakande later discovered the lifeless body of Nantongo with the help of police detectives. The deceased was conveyed the body to city mortuary Mulago.
Owoyesigyire has asked parents to be mindful of children’s movements and always caution them against advances from strangers
