Fire guts Iganga school Dormitory
Police in Iganga have launched investigations into another fire outbreak at a boy’s dormitory at Iganga high school.
This is the second fire to gut the school dormitory in less than one month. In June 2022, fire broke out in two dormitories housing senior three and senior four male students, The police blamed it on a short circuit.
The second fire started on Monday at 5:00 am, at the entrance. The destroyed student’s property including mattresses, suitcases, books, and clothing among others.
The cause of the fire remains unknown but the school administration says no fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident.
The Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Diana Nandawula, says police have tasked school administrators to space students’ dormitories to enable the team of fire and rescue services to respond effectively to fire incidents.Several school fires have been reported in schools within a period of one month.

On June 28, 2022, the administration block of St. Gonzaga Secondary school Kijukizo in Lyantonde sub county, Lyantonde district was set on fire during a students’ strike.
The fire, according to the school administration, was lit by rowdy students who went on rampage on Monday when they organized a strike with the intention of destroying properties.
On June 27, students at Rushanje Girls School in Rwamapara district were left in tears after a fire gutted the girl’s dormitory, reducing their belongings to nothing.
That same week, the Haven High school boy’s dormitory in Nyahuka town council in Bundibugyo district caught fire destroying property worth millions of Shillings. The affected property included mattresses, books, jerry cans, clothes, and money among others. No casualties have been reported.
On June 17, Fire gutted the boys dormitory at Mbarara Secondary School.The fire destroyed the Nyerere dormitory which houses S1, S2, and S3 students. The fire destroyed mattresses, clothes, books, shoes, and basins worth millions of Shillings.
