Viewers on DStv can look forward to the 14th round of the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship, the Belgian Grand Prix, live from Circuit de Spa Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium on the afternoon of Sunday 28th August 2022.

The Formula 1 season returns from a summer break of almost a full month. The previous race was the Hungarian Grand Prix in late July which saw Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claim his eighth win of the season to open a 70-point lead over nearest chaser Charles Leclerc of Ferrari in the Drivers’ Championship.

Red Bull also enjoy a 97-point lead over the Scuderia in the Constructors’ Championships. In fact Mercedes are looking capable of claiming second spot ahead of the Italian team, given that they are just 30 points adrift in third place and improving rapidly as the season progresses.

Verstappen looks to be cruising to a second successive title and has admitted that he prefers the battle he is having with Leclerc compared to the often acrimonious fight with Lewis Hamilton he had in 2021: “I prefer what we have now because first of all, Charles, I know very well. He is a nice guy,” said the Dutchman. “We are a similar age; I think we are only three weeks apart.

“And also I think we are fighting a very well respected competitor in terms of Ferrari. The way they go about [the battle], the way we are fighting – if they win a race, we can go to them and say ‘well done’, and if we win a race, they can come to us and say ‘well done’. I really respect that and also certain people within the team, and even Mattia [Binotto], I have a really good relationship with him.”

Meanwhile, Ferrari legend Jean Alesi believes the team in red are close to completing a winning combination and hopes that team boss Binotto is given time: “What we have seen in the past at Ferrari when they won with Jean [Todt] and Michael [Schumacher], they made something unique,” the Frenchman explained.

“What Binotto is doing at the moment is building the team with new people, fresh blood, and honestly it takes time. So far they have been fantastic to make a quick car but now they are missing some little things to be perfect. They need time.”

The Belgian Grand Prix is one of the most eagerly-anticipated events on the F1 calendar, taking place at the iconic Circuit de Spa Francorchamps. Known for its speed, length and technicality, Spa is a great challenge for the drivers, and the unpredictable weather adds an extra layer of difficulty.
