NBA preview….

Viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to thrills and spills from the world’s best basketball league, with ESPN and ESPN 2 the premier venues for coverage of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The 2022-23 season will continue through the week of Friday 20  to Thursday 26 January 2023.

DStv and GOtv is your home of the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.

The first live NBA game of the weekend comes from the Footprint Center in Arizona on the morning of Friday 20 January, as the Phoenix Suns welcome the Brooklyn Nets (05:00 LIVE on ESPN 2).

Nets star Kevin Durant has explained how a tough 2022 brought the team together, with a new spirit underpinning their fine recent form: “It was one of those years you reflect on and you see the turning points in the organisation,” noted ‘KD’.

“We’ve seen different moments that brought us together as a group. You see, at this point now towards the end of the year, you start to see us come together and perform what we’ve been looking to do these last couple of years, which was a solid team that plays hard every night. So we went through a lot in this calendar year, but we’re looking for bigger and better things in 2023.”

The action moves to the morning of Saturday 21 January, with the Miami Heat visiting the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center (02:30 LIVE on ESPN 2).

The Mavericks have been powered by the immense scoring form of Luka Doncic, with the Slovenian putting himself in the conversation as to which player is the best in the NBA this season – something teammate Christian Wood completely agrees with.

“It’s incredible,” explained Woods. “In my seven years in the league, I’ve never seen anybody do what he’s able to do. He’s on an incredible run. He’s playing like an MVP. Clearly one of the best players in the league.”

Sunday 22 January features two games, starting off in the early hours with the Toronto Raptors hosting the Boston Celtics (00:00 LIVE on ESPN). The late evening of the same day then sees the Heat in action again, this time as hosts at the FTX Arena in Miami as the New Orleans Pelicans come to town (22:30 LIVE on ESPN).

The Heat will once again look to star players such as Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Victor Oladipo and Tyler Herro, with the latter developing a reputation as a ‘closer’ in tight games: “You want the ball in his hands because you know that he wants those moments,” coach Erik Spoelstra said. “As he’s increasing his playmaking ability, he’ll make the right play.”
