Police impounds 400 NUP branded t-shirts
Joint security agencies have netted one suspect and impounded hundreds of T-shirts bearing inciting tags supposedly meant to be used in protests by National Unity Platform supporters in planned illegal assemblies.
The suspect Kiwanuka Isaac found in possession of over 400 T-shirts has been arrested and charged with inciting violence. He was reportedly responsible for printing and readying the T-shirts for distribution to participants.
The white T-shirts with an NUP umbrella symbol have printed writings such as ‘Kunga Uganda’, ‘Uganda Economic Protest’, ‘Kisoboka, Raise Up’, ‘tunahitagi uhuru, together we can, kenagum“ were picked up by security operatives following intelligence led information.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson told Galaxy Fm reporter Minah Nalule that they received reports of political activists using the opposition party NUP under the tag ‘Kunga Uganda’ to pilot a civil uprising on 08 May 23 countrywide.

He explains that the protests will be similar to those that happened recently in the neighbouring Kenya, over high cost of living.
“They have gone ahead to print t-shirts and placards that they intend to use that day. The purpose of the pending demonstration is to force government to cause reduction on essential commodities and everybody is urged to participate in it regardless of political or religious affiliation since it is affecting each and every one.” says Onyango
He says the activists are operating underground, assembling groups from various parts of the country with the soul aim of wreaking havoc.
“Their intention is to disturb the prevailing peace in the country. The group has been mobilizing people in the areas of Western Uganda, Mid-Western, Central and in Kampala.
Onyango has warned members of the public against being lured into any illegal activities. He says anyone who participates in any unlawful assembly will be arrested and charged to courts of law.
