One dies after truck carrying ‘matooke’ overturns in Masaka market
Traffic police have confirmed one person dead and seven others badly injured following an accident at Soweto Masaka City at around 05:30 am on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Namanda Rebecca a resident of Nyendo Masaka City.
The fatal incident involved a trailer reg no KBD 88Y/ZCB9381 traveling from Mbarara that overturned at Soweto market in Masaka City.
According to the Traffic police commander Faridah Nampiima, the the trailer which was loaded with matooke was offloading from different points but failed to brake when it reached the market where most vendors were to offload their matooke.

Nampiima says the driver moved about 2kms into a near by garden, overturned, killing one person on the spot. She adds that the Police Fire Brigade, red cross, police ambulance swung into action transferring the deceased and injured and deceased to Masaka and Mulago Referral hospitals.
This incident comes as three pupils from Malukhu and Nabuyonga primary schools perished on Wednesday morning at around 7:30 am in a tragic incident.
The accident happened along Mbale-Tororo road after two tyres of a seni truck Fao registration number UBH 126J/UAX012V deterred from the axle and hit them to death. The vehicle was from Tororo side.
The deceased are: Namugosa Shakira 9, a resident of Malukhu Primary, Wasike Jane 3.5 years, and Wasike Grace aged 12 years both of Nabuyonga primary School.
