The Buganda Road Court has remanded Hamza Farouk Kintu alias Mayambala Mugabi, 43, to Luzira government prison until May 08, 2023.
Mayambala, a prominent disabled begger operating on a wheel chair along Namirembe Road and a mosque next to Arua Park. Mayambala was arrested in possession of a revolver gun, six mobile phones and a still camera on April 06, 2023 outside Kalungu Plaza and held at Central Police Station in Kampala.
He was on Wednesday produced before the Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Siena Owomugisha and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon( gun) and Military Fatigue.

A wheel chair bound Mayambala who had no legal representation in court pleaded not guilty to both charges and was remanded until May 8 for hearing of his case. The accused failed to apply for bail as he had no friends or relatives to stand surety for him in the courts of law.
The State Attorney Lydia Nakato told court that inquiries into the matter are complete and witness summons have been issued.

Prior to his appearance in court, Mayambala was subjected to a psychiatric evaluation to ascertain if he is in the right frame of mind to stand trial. This was after he informed police that he is a soldier with army number 3347 of the National Resistance Army (NRA).
He further stated that the pistol he had was given to him by President Museveni at State House in 2005. However the UPDF dismissed his claims saying NRA is not the official armed forces of the country.
Mayambala is reportedly a resident of Biina Mutungo, in Nakawa Division, Kampala. He speaks Luganda and Swahili fluently.
