Locals in Namisindwa District have threatened to lynch a man for organizing a deadly alcohol contest that claimed the life of a 24-year-old man.
The deceased Rober Welikhe, a notorious drinker from Sikhendu village, Sikhendu parish, Bukiabi sub-county, died while participating in the contest that featured a local brew Kakasa Kombucha.
Welikhe was anxious to win a tempting prize of Uganda Shillings 10,000, but the competition soon spiraled into tragedy.
The prime suspect, Augustus Wete, a local trader at Riverside trading center in Bukiabi, told participants to swallow 12 bottles of Kakasa Kombucha, a potent alcoholic beverage from Kenya, in order to win the hard cash.
Welikhe, known for his drinking habits, bravely pushed through until the 8th bottle. Suddenly, he collapsed, with disturbing symptoms like foaming from the mouth and nose.
Frantic residents rushed him to Lwakhakha Mercy Clinic, desperately trying to save his life, but tragically, he succumbed to the dire effects of the challenge en route.
Fueled by grief and anger, locals dumped Welikhe’s lifeless body at Wete’s doorstep, demanding justice, and threatened to kill him. Wete and his accomplices have since fled the village and a manhunt is on for them.
