Pastor Bujjingo Aloysius of House of Prayer Ministries has reportedly been discharged from Mulago hospital, where he drove himself yesterday to receive treatment and rescue his deceased driver Richard Muhumza.

In a surprising turn of events, Bujjingo, though initially at risk, is reported to be out of danger. Police have on Wednesday morning escorted him to his residence, and he will undergo further medical examination from home.

This follows tragedy that struck the streets of Bawalakata in Namugoona parish, Kawempe division, Kampala District, as Bugingo’s splash white range rover was reportedly damaged with live bullets by two assailants riding on boda bodas.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson says the assailants ambushed the vehicle, killing the UPDF officer Muhumuza. The victim was serving as a bodyguard to renowned Pastor.

Police say the incident occurred around 10:00 PM when Pastor Bujjingo was returning home from Salt TV station. It is alleged that the pastor was driving himself, with Officer Muhumuza in the co-driver’s seat. As they passed through Namugoona bypass, unknown assailants on a motorcycle unleashed a hail of bullets on the vehicle, instantly killing Officer Muhumuza.

The assailants, still unidentified, targeted the co-driver’s side, shattering the window screen where Muhumuza was seated.

Owoyesigyire says that despite the harrowing attack, Pastor Bujjingo Aloysius managed to drive to Mulago Referral Hospital, where Officer Muhumuza’s body was received, however he died upon arrival. The deceased officer’s body was conveyed to KCCA mortuary pending postmortem examination.

He says the police responded to the incident , cordoning off the crime scene in Bawalakata. However, by the time they arrived, the crime scene had already been tampered with, limiting access to them obtaining thorough evidence or exhibits.

A police statement reveals that the motor vehicle involved in the incident was towed from Mulago Casualty to Wandegeya Police Division for forensic examination. The motives behind the attack remain unclear.
