At least 11 people are nursing injuries following a road accident involving a bus along the Ntungamo–Kabale highway in Rwabahazi village, Rukiga District.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 6:10 AM, when the driver of a Scania bus, registration number UBM 707X, reportedly failed to negotiate a sharp corner. The bus, which was en route to Kabale from Kampala, veered off the road, knocked a pedestrian, and overturned after hitting a trench.

Police have identified the injured pedestrian as Dafuroza Rwakinda, a resident of Rwabahazi, who remains in critical condition.

Ten other victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and include: Karim Balabye, 54 (bus driver), resident of Bugembe, Jinja, Asumpta Kyomuhangi, 40, from Nansana , Ronnie and Blaire Nowamani, 18 and 14 respectively, Brandon Nowembabazi, 11, of Kabale Patience Busingye, 49,Benson Kiconco, 55, of Kampala, Pauson Asimwe, 40, of Rubanda, Richard Basisha, a 34-year-old Rwandan and Tracy Ninsima, 21, from Muhanga Town

Several were rushed to ROTOM Health Centre, while others are at Kabale Referral Hospital.

The wreckage has been dragged to Muhanga Police Station, where experts are inspecting it for clues. Police suspect speeding or mechanical failure, but investigations are still ongoing.
