Airtel Money has announced a ground-breaking partnership with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) that will transform how Ugandans fulfil their civic obligations, making tax and fee payments faster, easier, and more accessible than ever before.

With this collaboration, Ugandans can now pay taxes, renew passports, secure business licenses, or settle any URA obligation directly from their mobile phones, eliminating queues, paperwork, and unnecessary time away from work.

“From this moment forward, paying your taxes, renewing your passport, securing your business license, or settling any URA obligation is as simple as reaching for your phone. No queues. No paperwork. No wasted leave days,” said Japhet Aritho, Airtel Money Managing Director, during the launch event.

Whether it’s PAYE, VAT, customs duties, or urgent passport renewals, Airtel Money users can now complete transactions instantly by either:

  • Opening the MyAirtel App, or
  • Dialing 1854*7# on their mobile phone.

Once logged in, customers simply select their payment type, enter their details, and complete the payment, all within minutes.

“Let me be clear… at Airtel Money, we walk the talk. As of the year ended December 2024, Airtel Money contributed UGX 133.4 billion in taxes. We understand first-hand the importance of tax in driving our country’s development, and we are committed to making it easier for every Ugandan to play their part” – Mr. Japhet Aritho added…

This partnership also enables students to pay university fees, entrepreneurs to secure trading licenses, and every Ugandan to contribute to nation-building without leaving home or the office.

James Odong, Assistant Commisioner The URA Commissioner General praised the move, highlighting it as a step toward greater financial inclusion and improved public service delivery.

“In URA, we have introduced the use of technology to enhance the tax process, which is crystallised in our mission to mobilise national development transparently and efficiently. This partnership with Airtel further strengthens our capacity to provide convenient, accessible, and secure payment solutions for all taxpayers. By leveraging Airtel’s wide network and innovative digital platforms, we are ensuring that more Ugandans can meet their tax obligations with ease, ultimately driving socio-economic growth across the country.” Airtel Uganda continues to invest in solutions that simplify life for its customers while supporting Uganda’s economic growth and digital transformation agenda – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8LPleFqdJg&t=323s
