Nyeko ditches MP race

Hon. Nyeko Derrick the incumbent MP for Makindye East has officially withdrawn from the parliamentary race, after deep reflection and respect for his constituents.

In a statement popsted on his official X platform, Nyeko expressed gratitude to supporters, saying he served with “honour, respect, and a deep commitment never to betray the trust of your vote.” He acknowledged that the decision may be difficult for his team, especially after their strong belief in winning the seat again.

“This choice does not diminish the journey we have walked together, nor the victories we have achieved,” he added.

He maintained that his choice followed careful consideration. Reaffirming his commitment to integrity, Nyeko added: “I remain a man of no corruption, no compromise, no problems.”

This statement has left many wondering whether it was his choice to step down or party pressures played a role.

Last year, Nyeko faced criticism from a section of his constituents in Ggaba, who alleged he had remained largely absent during his five-year term, only returning to seek votes ahead of the election season.

With this withdrawal, the Makindye East race opens the field to new candidates, while Nyeko maintains his stance as a man of integrity, free from corruption or controversy.
