A section of pupils, at Kiwawu Church of Uganda Primary School in Malangala Sub-County, Mityana District, have pointed fingers at their teachers , accusing them of practicing witchcraft.
For close to a month now,the situation at the school has been unbearable after strange things believed to be demons attacked some pupils and teachers.
According to Harriet Naiga, the school head teacher ,since the beginning of the term, many pupils have been unable to attend lessons complaining of strange sickness which health workers failed to diagnose, leading to the closure of the school.
“Some appeared like they had mental problems, shouting and jumping, while others were very weak,”
Psychologists and doctors believe such cases are not demonic but are effects of mass hysteria and convulsion disorders”, Naiga said
Four teachers also left the school to seek medical attention after they were reportedly attacked.
A pupil, only identified as Suzan, claims that some of the teachers are behind this attack, explaining that whenever the demons attacked her colleagues, the victims would shake their hands uncontrollably, scream and roll on the ground before running around the school, banging school doors and windows .
A lot of intervention has been done since the school was closed.
Naiga said the school management first sought help from priests at Kiwawu Parish to pray for the pupils , but their efforts were futile and the situation remained the same.
They therefore resorted to a traditional healer who has since cast out the demons from the pupils , acknowledging that he has cleansed the school and they can now resume normal lessons.
Lessons, at the school with an enrollment of at least 450 pupils ,were according to Naiga expected to resume today.
