Police is investigating circumstances under which panga-welding thugs last evening attacked and stabbed Arch Rwego, a Kampala-based businessman, at his home near Essella Country Hotel off Najjera-Kira road, Wakiso District.

Rwego, in his 40s, who was at home with his wife had a day earlier allowed his night guard to go on a short leave. Narrating the ordeal, his wife Dora Asio said that after returning home at around 6pm, Rwego did not imagine that would be his last day on earth.

He in fact watched the Champions League match pitting Manchester United and Juventus. At the end of the match, Rwego, in his early forties, retired to the comfort of his wife in bed.

Deep in the night at around 3:00am, the panga-welding thugs took advantage of the rain to attack, first by cut the security fence, poisoning two dogs, leaving them unconscious and hacked the other one with a panga. They then struck the door glass and accessed the key which was left in the door lock.

Rwego woke up to check if there was intrusion, but he was unfortunately stabbed in the head, chest and back.

Dora begged them to spare her life but take whatever they wanted and they walked away with a television set and other household items as Luke Owoyesigire, Kampala Metroplitan police spokesperson explained to our reporter.
