Harriet Nakalema,32, who last month murdered her one and half year-old baby girl, purportedly for ritual purposes has been remanded to Luzira prison until 26/11/2018.
Nakalema and two others appeared before City Hall Court Grade one magistrate, Beatrice Kainza,this afternoon.
They were arrested on October 29 by Kira Road Police Station for killing her little daughter by cutting off her private parts and slitting her ‘tummy ‘ to remove the liver, Kidney and intestines. According to the postmortem report, the deceased Vivian Nalunga died of excessive bleeding.
Nakalema and her accomplices Annet Mwagale(42) and her mother Annet Mulindwa(68) have since been in detention, pending murder charges.
After committing the heinous act, Nakalema together with Mwagale rushed the deceased to Mulago Causality Hospital where the doctors confirmed the baby had died due to excessive bleeding. According to the postmortem report, the baby’s body was found with missing private parts, uterus and intestines to which a case was opened up at Mulago Causality Police Post under file number SD: REF. 06/29/10/2018.
The hospital management then involved the area police in which the crime was committed leading to the arrest of Harriet Nakalema.
Upon arrest, police searched her home and detectives recovered intestines suspected to belong to the deceased fitted into the kitchen sink, a bucket and clothes soaked with blood. However, it was noted that the private parts and uterus and other organs were missing.
When questioned about what had happened to the little girl, the sobbing Nakalema told police that it was the devil that had cut her daughter into pieces. Mwagale, the other suspect however told the investigators that Nakalema had been paid by their sister Angella Rwensisi who lives in Canada to send her fresh body parts of a young baby for ritual purposes.
