High levels of vandalism and poor attitude in Kampala are some of the big challenges facing the development of Kampala, the Executive Director Kampala Capital City Authority, Jennifer Musisi has revealed.
She disclosed this in her presentation to parliament led by the Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga on her seven year term at the helm of Kampala Capital City Authority-KCCA.
Musisi explained that although the city faces numerous challenges such as limited funding which affects basic service delivery, vandalism and poor attitude standout.
She disclosed that Ugandans have vandalized street lights, stolen solar batteries and cut off security light poles among other things.
She also highlighted the problem of enforcement, saying some people politicize technical matters.
Musisi called on Government to increase funding to the Authority to purchase garbage collection and disposal trucks, saying only 14 trucks are available of the required 65 trucks.
A new truck costs Shillings 800 million. She pleaded with MPs to speak on behalf of KCCA and ensure that their budget is approved.
She says for example Government needs to start thinking of maintaining the programs that donors have set up, since donors may not be there forever.
