Police in Bukomansimbi are holding a 37-year-old woman for allegedly hitting her 2-year-old step daughter on the head with a shoe, leading to her death.
Makulata Nanyonga, a resident of Kasenyi Village in Bigasa Sub County in Bukomansimbi district is accused of assaulting her step daughter with a shoe on the head for allegedly soiling her under garments leading to her death.
Musa Kiyimba, the father of the deceased, says he was shocked to receive a phone call from a neighbor informing him that his daughter had died after being assaulted with a shoe on the head.
According to Kiyimba, he rushed home and found the minor’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, with Nanyonga nowhere to be seen.
Ssentongo Kiggundu, a neighbor the family, says Nanyonga was fond of mistreating the minor and giving her hard despite her tender age.
Kiggundu says they have been informing Kiyimba about Nanyonga’s conduct towards the minor but he didn’t take their concerns seriously.
Manisur Sserwadda, the Bukomansimbi District Police Commander, confirms the arrest, saying the suspect is likely to be charged with murder once investigations are complete.
Police has handed over the minor’s body to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
