
Business tycoon Amos Nzeyi ,a shareholder in the defunct National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has vowed never to forgive former Executive Director Banking Supervision at Bank of Uganda saying the pain she caused him still after unfairly closing his bank still haunts him to date.
Appearing before the Committee of Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), on Monday, Nzeyi , who owned the Bank alongside former Premier Amama Mbabazi retired Supreme Court Justice George Kanyeihamba among others revealed that following a court battle with Bank of Uganda, the shareholders of NBC Bank were ordered to raise Shs7Bn within a week to recapitalize their Bank, which directive they complied with within four days when he secured a loan from his Kenyan friend and went on to secure another loan from Exim Bank.
Nzeyi, who struggled to keep his cool, added that he is now living in fear and can’t step foot in his home district, Kabale where his name was tainted.
The committee chaired by Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu is investigating circumstances under which seven commercial banks were closed and sold by Bank of Uganda.
The affected banks were closed between 1993 and 2016. They include Teefe Trust Bank, International Credit Bank Ltd, Greenland Bank, Uganda Co-operative Bank, National Bank of Commerce, Global Trust Bank and Crane Bank Ltd.
