The president of the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) Bashir Kazibwe and three others who are charged with defamation against Pastor Daniel Walugembe have been released on bail .

Buganda road court grade one magistrate Robert Mukanza charged Kazibwe together with Thomas Bagonza, Beatrice Nabwiire and Hassan Ssegawa .

According to prosecution, the suspects, on 5th January 2019 in areas of Katanga near industrial area Kampala spread information damaging Pastor Walugembe Daniel’s name.

Walugembe was reportedly trying to evict them from a contested piece of land.

In a fully packed court room, the four suspects  applied for bail and presented three sureties, whom court found to be substantial.

Each one of the accused was released on a non-cash bond of 4 million shillings and the same amount for their sureties.

These are all residents of Kimwanyi zone in Katanga Makerere within Kampala city .

They however all pleaded not guilty to the charge .

These are accused of damaging the name and reputation of pastor David Walugembe of External Gospel Church in Kimwanyi Katanga.

They have however been released on a four million non- cash bail with court Issuing a gag order against Kazibwe and his co-accused against commenting on the matter until court is disposed off.

Prosecution led by Patricia Cingitho states that on the 5th of January 2019, Kazibwe Bashir and his co accused in areas of Katanga near industrial area Kampala spread information damaging Pastor Walugembe Daniel’s name whom they accused of forcefully grabbing their land .

They have been ordered to return to court on the 29th of March 2019 as investigations into the case continues.
