President Yoweri Museveni has echoed a reassuring message to the nation after security rescued American tourist Kimberley Sue and her Ugandan guide.
Kimberley and Jean Paul Mirenge were kidnapped by armed gunmen in the Queen Elizabeth National Park last week.
Kidnappers demanded ransom to allow the pair walk away. Security on Sunday confirmed their rescue and briefed President Museveni.
The President confirmed the rescue: “Last evening, security officials briefed me about the rescue of American tourist Kimberly Sue and her Ugandan guide, Jean Paul Mirenge, who had been kidnapped by criminals in Queen Elizabeth National Park.”
And went on to assure and warn: “We shall deal with these isolated pockets of criminals. However, I want to reassure the country and our tourists that Uganda is safe and we shall continue to improve the security in our parks. Come and enjoy the Pearl of Africa.”
