Police have reiterated the warning to members of the public to desist from hiring unarmed security guards.
This after an unidentified thug shot dead Silas Tumwesigye, a guard at Sals Hotel along Ntinda-Kiwatule Road in Kampala. Tumwesigye was gunned down in the wee hours of Monday morning.
The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire, says police responded to the attack and killed the thug in a gunfire exchange at Ntinda-Kyambogo sector near Uganda Business and Technical Examination-UBTEB offices.
He says they also recovered the firearm used by the thug whose identity hasn’t been established. Owoyesigyire says they have since established that the gun was stolen from Corporal Ulia Bongo who was stabbed on May 3, 2019 while on duty at the UBTEB offices.
According to Police, Bongo is still in critical condition at Mulago National Regional Referral hospital. The late Tumwesigye was attached to Premium Security Company, a private security firm.
