Anyone found guilty of causing damage to road infrastructure will be imprisoned for five years or pay a fine of two hundred million shillings if President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni assents to the Road Bill passed by parliament last week.
The State Minister for works and transport General Edward Katumba Wamala made the announcement that is contained in the newly passed road bill in which Parliament approved the extension of the road reserve from 15 to 40 meters.
According to Minister Katumba asides from helping avert road nuisance(like those who burn tryes on the road during protests, heap their ‘kasasiro’ on the road side), the bill will go a long way in enabling the ministry to collect money for road construction and maintenance.
Katumba further explained that whoever encroaches on the road reserves will be in for serious trouble;
