Three people are in Ntinda Police custody on allegations of breaking into Lily Benefit Investment Ltd, a Chinese Company on Sunday night. The Deputy Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire identifies the suspects as Muzafari Wanda, Moses Etangand Emmanuel Nama.
The suspects are residents of Kinawataka in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. According to police, Nama was a security guard at the firm attached to Securex Private Security Group. He was dismissed by Lily Benefit Investment Ltd in 2017 over misconduct.
According to Owoyesigyire, the suspects broken into the company premises in Ntinda Industrial Area at around 2am this morning and were caught red handed breaking padlocks by the guards.
“Its alleged that at around 02:10, three unknown persons with breaking implements gained entry in to the premises of Lily Benefit Investment Ltd (A Chinese company) located in Ntinda industrial area and while inside, they cut padlocks to enable them gain access into the stores,” Owoyesigyire said.
The guards who are also attached to Securex Security Group called their rapid response team that helped to transport the suspects to Ntinda Police Station. “The suspects were received from Securex group. They will be charged with criminal trespass, being in possession of breaking implements and attempted store breaking,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police have since advised companies to deploy armed guards, install security cameras but also make comprehensive background checks before hiring people as guards. Police detectives have already recorded statements from the suspects.
The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) recorded 3368 cases of house and company breakings in 2018 thus registering a 5percent decline compared to 2017. Of these, 1637 cases were taken to court but only 471 secured convictions.
