Police in Mbale is holding over 30 students for inciting violence.

It all started yesterday when two high school students from Mbale Secondary School and Mbale High school engaged in a bloody fist fight at the school premises over a girl. One of the boys accused the other of being in a relationship with his longtime girlfriend.

The sour exchange between the two boys attracted the attention of both schools forcing police to swing into action.

In the process, police fired teargas to disperse the rowdy students and at least 50 were injured and rushed to the nearby Mbale Municipality health centers where some were admitted.

Robert Tukei, the Elgon region police Spokesperson confirmed that the over 30 students, from both schools, are currently detained at Mbale Central Police Station, pending investigation on the actual cause of the fight .

Tukei says that once investigations are complete, the students will be charged accordingly.
