Wonders shall never end!

Police in Kampala is holding a woman accused of burying a banana stem to defraud her US based fiancé. Janet Nanjovu,43, allegedly called Stephen Nsubuga claiming that their child she delivered at International Hospital Kampala-IHK had died.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, says that Nanjovu explained to Nsubuga that over Shillings 48 million was required to cover the medical bills and funeral expenses. Nsubuga reportedly sent the money to Nanjovu and asked her to get in touch with his relatives to bury the child.

According to Police, Nanjovu bought a coffin, placed in a banana stem and took the coffin to Kigoma in Wobulenzi town council in Luweero District for burial. She reportedly informed Nsubuga’s relatives that the child’s body was scaring and that doctors had advised that it shouldn’t be opened for viewing.

The speed at which the burial was conducted and the fact that the relatives were denied chance to view the body raised suspicion among residents. They exhumed the casket shortly after Nanjovu and her team traveled back to Kampala.

According to Onyango, relatives and locals were shocked to find a well-shaped banana stem wrapped in clothes upon exhumation.
