ARSENAL are prepared to allow Nacho Monreal to join Real Sociedad this week if the veteran full-back asks to leave.

Monreal, 33, is in the final year of his Emirates contract and knows he will not be offered a new deal to extend his stay.

Manager Unai Emery is happy for the Spanish international to remain at the club this season and leave as a free agent next summer.

But he will not stand in Monreal’s way if the player decides to join Sociedad, who are offering him a two-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

But Arsenal are expected to demand a nominal fee of around £3million for their longest-serving first team regular who joined from Malaga in a £8.5million deal six years ago.

Monreal was recently named as one of Unai’s three Arsenal captains for the season following Laurent Koscielny’s controversial recent move to Bordeaux.
