Police have in custody 208 suspected thugs in an effort to crackdown on Rampant theft in the Kampala Metropolitan area. The operation started  Thursday and suspected thugs are currently undergoing screening by the police.

Police mouthpiece Fred Enanga says as part of an ongoing operation to cub crime,they have recovered stolen items from the Cooper complex and Mutaasa Kafeero.

The operation was conducted by Uganda People Defence Forces –UPDF, Military Police, Crime Intelligence, Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, Field Force Unit –FFU, Flying Squad Unit –FSU and Crime Investigations Directorate –CID.

Among the swindled include 25oo Mobile phones, 280 laptops, 25 Television sets, and 10 central processing Units.

According to Enanga, they have in custody 119  at Nateete Police Station,60 at Kampala central police station and 29 at Katwe police post.

Police have also impounded Stolen motorcycle and parts at Muganziraza Plaza , Katwe kibuye.

These consist of 141 complete motorcycles, one Mitsubishi engine,83 exhaust pipes 82 motorcycle engines,19 engine shells 27 motorcycle carriers and 15 motorcycle engines all being held at Nateete police statin and  CID headquarters Kibuli.

Enanga says police submitted the number plates and engine numbers of the stolen items to Uganda Revenue Authority to establish the proprietors.
