The management of Mandela National Stadium has announced that the stadium is going to be out of use for two weeks to allow for refurbishment of the facility.

In a letter released by the stadium management, the reason for discontinuing any activity at the facility is to allow for a grace period to attend to the condition of the playing surface that has been deteriorating over the past months.

The stadium has been disturbed by recent rains and multiple activities over the past months and indeed needed urgent attention before any international match or further league games.

The Mandela national stadium is the home of the three Uganda Premier League clubs that include Sports Club Villa, URA Fc and newly promoted Kyetume Fc.

Due to the refurbishment at Namboole stadium for the next two weeks, the FUFA Licensing Committee has asked the three clubs to find alternative approved grounds to host their affected fixtures in the next two weeks.

The clubs have been given a deadline of this week to register their provisional stadiums.

The Namboole stadium playing surface got messed when it hosted the Masaza Cup final and the third place play-off last Saturday.

A number of games have been hosted on floodlights at Namboole where Sc Villa’s gate collection had increased according to the numbers that watch night football.

It is rumoured that Sc Villa officials approached KCCA Fc management about the availability of Startimes Stadium so as to host its games on the Lugogo pitch over the weekend since KCCA Fc will be playing a CAF game away from home, but KCCA officials denied Villa the access to the stadium.
