State Minister for Sports Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi has called for a collective effort from both parents and schools in nurturing children’s talents besides only focusing on academic excellence.
He made the call while meeting students from different schools in the Mukono district for a technological advancement seminar.
He noted that talent is one of the things that has not only exposed Ugandans but marketed the country as well.

He cited Halimah Nakaayi the Ugandan who run a race of her life to win Uganda’s first gold in Doha – and the same time, the country’s first-ever medal at the World Championships.
With a gold medal in the bag, Nakaayi left the most populous city and capital of Qatar $60,000 (about sh220m) richer.
Baakkabulindi says gone are the days when sports was looked at as something for the academically incapable but now is one of the most lucrative spheres world over.
Bakabulindde said the Ministry of Education and sports is encouraging students who can excel at both academics and talent.
