Two lawyers have dragged the government to court for allegedly failing to translate the Constitution into over 56 local dialects.
The Two lawyers Michael Aboneka and Martins Kirya claim that lack of political will to translate the constitution into local languages has kept the population blind of their rights and responsibilities which must be addressed.
In their lawsuit filed before the High Court Civil division, the two lawyers claim that the Attorney General has unreasonably and deliberately failed in his duty to have the translation of the Constitution into various Uganda local languages and dissemination of the same as wide as possible for 24years after the 1995 Constitution came into force.
According to Michael Aboneka the state is obligated to promote public awareness of the Constitution into all local languages to enable all citizens to read, understand and appreciate their rights and obligations which rights are given by God.
They were speaking to the media shortly after the mediation process led by Christopher Rukyalekere at Twed Towers in Kampala.
Aboneka notes that the case has been adjourned to 3rd December as the government prepares to file its defense and to make up with a harmonized position between two parties.
