Mayuge police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Lieutenant Corporal, Joel Cherukot a Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldier.

Joel Cherikut 35, was on Sunday found lying dead next to a railway line with his right arm chopped off and both legs smashed. He was pursuing a six month’s engineering course at the UPDF School of engineering and Logistics.

Cherukot was killed  and dumped at the rail station in Magamaga town council in Jinja district.

James Mubi, the Busoga East Police Spokesperson, says the deceased was last seen at Forest bar in Magamaga town council on Sunday evening.

Mubi says preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was killed in the barracks and his body dumped at the railway station

“Our preliminary findings indicate that his killers dumped him at the railway station to be crushed by the train as a means of frustrating security investigations,” he said.

Captain George Musinguzi, the Jinja Zone UPDF spokesperson, says nine UPDF soldiers attached to Magamaga cantonment have been arrested for further investigations.

He says the suspects are being held at Magamaga barracks pending instructions from the UPDF headquarters.
