Government has pledged to give shillings 500.000 to the families of those that have recovered and buried dead bodies in the Bududa Landslides.

Musa Ecweru, the Relief and Disaster Preparedness State Minister says the department of the office of the Prime Minister will pay shs 500,000 to each body that has been retrieved and buried and the same will apply for Bundibugyo.

Close to 25 bodies have been retrieved and 4000 families displaced  in a deadly landslide that hit Bumpomboli village, Harugale Sub County and Kirindi trading center in Bundibugyo district.

The number of bodies retrieved in the Bududa landslides has now reached 12. 3 bodies were also located on Monday.

More than 30 people are feared to have been trapped under the rubble by the landslides that hit Naposhi and Namasa in Bushika Sub County on Tuesday last week.

Ecweru also appreciated the work by the teams efforts in retrieving the bodies  buried by the landslides.

Uganda National Roads Authority-UNRA deployed an excavator to help in the search for the bodies of the landslide victims believed to be trapped underground.

Wilson Watira, the Bududa District LCV chairperson, says they are likely to recover more bodies if UNRA allows them a period of at least four more days.

He says this will boost more confidence among the masses of the government’s efforts in retrieving the dead bodies.

Watira says there is worry that people may eventually give upon this exercise as  bodies are quickly decomposing .
